 Yellowpages are almost as old as the Phone .... which was invented in I876. Only two years later, the very first Phonebook came out.... Soon the need for 2 kind of Phonebooks became evident: one "classified by Name" generally called "White Pages" the other "classified by Activity" generally called "Yellow Pages" Today the expression "Yellow Pages" is used all over the World ... many many many different companies edit Yellowpages !! Nowadays nobody knows who invented the expression "Yellow Pages". According to legend the word came about due to a coincidence - a Directory Printer running out of white paper where opon he finished the prints with the "yellow" paper he had in stock. Little by little and about half a Century later the American Expression "Yellow Pages" was adopted by other countries either naming them after the original name "Yellow Pages" or renaming them in local dialects: "Yellowpages" are also called "Pages Jaunes" - "Pages d Or" - "Paginas Amarillas" "Paginas Doradas" - "Seccion Amarilla" - "Paginas Amarelas" - "Gelbe Seiten" - "Goldene Seiten" - "Pagine Gialle"   All over the World people know "Yellow Pages" as a universal expression for "Business Directories" Hotels, Restaurants, Reals Estate Firms, Financial Services, Insurance Companies and Shops are among the most frequent queries. |
